Slightly more than nine months have passed since the speedway star and double junior world champion from Australia crashed badly in a race in Poland. The accident damaged his trachea, broke an arm, but above all, he suffered severe spinal cord injuries. So severe that the doctors were forced to conclude that Darcy Ward had been paralyzed from the chest down.

From Poland Ward was taken to England, where he first was treated. Nowadays, he is at home in Australia again, training hard with his rehabilitation in a rehab center on the Gold Coast.

Want to see the exhibition

The Australian, who among other things has raced in the Swedish Elitserien for Dackarna from Målilla, and was seen as one of the sport's brightest stars, has not been on a GP race in Europe since the accident.

But this summer he will be.

The main reason that Ward is coming to Sweden, however, is to visit the motorcycle museum MX World Collection in Vimmerby. The museum includes the motorcycle he was driving in the accident, as well as the clothes, helmet and much more.

- Darcy really wants to come here and see the exhibition. However the timing works great to place his visit in connection with the GP race in Målilla. Along with the main sponsor Monster, as supporters of the trip, we will also organize a big party the night before the GP race.

"I feel honored"

In addition to the speedway fans and people in Vimmerby, who choose to go to the party, many of the drivers in this year's GP series, including Greg Hancock, Tai Woffinden, Chris Holder and Maciej Janowski will also be in place to meet Darcy.

- Monster will throw a generous speedway party. Among other things, they bring their big Dakar truck to Vimmerby, equipped with a crazy sound system, big-screen television, and a lot of other things, Magnus Frodig explains.

How does it feel for you to have Darcy Ward coming here?

- I'm feel very divided to Darcy's booth. Firstly, there is the great tragedy of it all, while it was Darcy himself who wanted his motorcycle to be placed here. All the money I have paid for the bike and the other stuff has been donated to Darcy's rehabilitation fund, which feels good. It is an honor - both to have the confidence to have his things here and he that he visits us, Frodig concludes.
